Recipe steps
Prepare the apple filling
Wash, peel, and grate the Granny Smith apples. Place them in a stainless steel saucepan with 6 to 8 tablespoons of sugar, depending on your taste. Cook over medium heat until tender and the juices have released. Remove from heat and stir in the cinnamon and one packet of vanilla sugar. Set aside.
Prepare the dough
In a large mixing bowl, blend the room-temperature margarine with the yogurt until smooth. Gradually add the flour mixed with the baking powder, salt, and the second packet of vanilla sugar. Knead by hand until the dough no longer sticks. Let it rest in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
Assemble the pie
Divide the dough into two equal portions. Roll out the first portion slightly larger than your baking sheet. Place it on a parchment-lined baking sheet, bringing the edges up slightly. Spread the apple filling evenly, then cover with the second rolled-out portion of dough.
Bake and serve
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake for about 30 minutes, until the pie is nicely golden. Let it cool for a few minutes before dusting generously with powdered sugar. Slice and serve warm or at room temperature.
Tips and variations
- You can swap Granny Smith apples for Golden Delicious or Reinette for a sweeter, less tart version.
- Add a handful of raisins or chopped walnuts to the filling for extra indulgence.
- For a lighter version, replace the butter with coconut oil.
