-
dates

-
flour
Recipe steps
Prepare the oven and pan
Preheat your oven to 180°C. Lightly grease a 20x20 cm square pan with a little oil or use parchment paper.
Prepare the apples
Core the apples and grate them coarsely or cut them into small cubes. No need to peel them—the skin adds crunch and fiber.
Mix all the ingredients
In a large bowl, combine the oats, whole wheat flour, chopped dates, crushed walnuts, cinnamon, and salt. Add the apples and apple juice. Mix everything well.
Let it rest
Wait 15 minutes for the oats and flour to absorb the apple juice. The batter will become more compact and easier to work with.
Bake
Pour the mixture into the pan and press down lightly with the back of a spoon. Bake for 30 minutes, until the top is golden.
Cut and serve
Remove from the oven and cut into 9 squares while still warm. Let cool for a few minutes before enjoying.
Tips and variations
- No dates? Swap them for raisins, dried apricots, or chopped figs.
- For extra indulgence, add a handful of dark chocolate chips to the batter.
- You can swap the walnuts for hazelnuts or almonds depending on your preference.
Anti-waste tips
Your apples looking a bit tired? This is the perfect time to use them in this recipe—they’ll only be sweeter and more tender when baked.
