Système B, the cooperative shaking up habits

Système B Producer

At UglyFruits, we believe another way of eating is possible — more human, more local, and above all, more fair. This is what we share and build with Système B, a food cooperative born in Neuchâtel and based in Bienne, where everyone who shops first becomes a stakeholder

A story born from a collective need

In 2017, faced with the closure of a local organic grocery store, a small group of citizens decided to take action: “Let’s create a project differently,” they said. Less advertising, more meaning. Inspired by models like the Food Coop in New York or La Louve in Paris, they launched Système B — B for plan B, because, as they say, “system A is no longer viable”

A cooperative, but not just any cooperative

They’re not customers, but cooperative members — each person commits to dedicating 3 hours per month to the life of the store (stocking shelves, checkout, communication…) and becomes a co-owner and active participant in the system.

This choice allows them to offer organic, local, bulk or low-packaging products at fair prices, while properly compensating producers

A cooperative that tells its story

What makes Système B strong is its desire to put people back at the center: prioritizing solidarity over competition. Ethical consumption, built together. This is also made possible through reasonable prices enabled by eliminating traditional margins and the active involvement of all cooperative members.

From garden to plate: everyday agroecology

As the ultimate proof of consistency, in 2021, Système B developed its vegetable garden, integrated into a collaborative agroforestry model with the Coopérative de la Bor. This is where vegetables and fruits grow using permaculture methods.

A grocery store in motion, open to the world

Why we’re proud to partner with Système B: - A model centered on people. - Organic, local and accessible products at fair prices.

  • Complete consistency between production, distribution and sharing
